Fashion starts to kick-it old school

by Mikaela Click

There are some trends that made me happy when they went out of style. Polyester suits, bellbottom jeans, sweat suits, and low-rise jeans needed to be buried in the past. But, among the ashes of these fashion disasters, a few items managed to make a comeback that says they’re going to stay awhile. Lace, big costume jewelry, thick glasses, patterned jeans, and oversized sweaters are this season’s big finds that are making their way into mainstream clothing stores. It’s time to see our mom’s and grandma’s clothes take back fashion.

This season is all about still looking feminine and having curves while being bundled up for winter weather. One of the best ways to achieve this look is by wearing big sweaters and tight jeans. Make sure that this look compliments your body type. Try a grey sweater and dark jeggings paired with red lips for a finishing look. This outfit helps ladies stay toasty while still looking sexy.

Other trends coming back are lace and patterned jeans. Wearing a black and white striped shirt with pink, black, and grey floral jeans can give you an unexpected it with your friends. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns as long as they are within the same color scheme. Pull your hair into a high bun and place a lace bow underneath it. You’re sure to get plenty of compliments on this.

The last trends that I’m happy are coming back are the accessories of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Chunky costume jewelry can make or break and outfit. I like to pair a multi-layered necklace (such as fake pearls) with a button-up. Leave a few buttons at the top undone to show off the necklace. They can be perfect or totally crash and burn because too much can take away from the overall beauty of an outfit. Also, never be afraid to wear your glasses. I find that they make even a pair of sweatpants look put together.

Someone once said, “I have an irrational fear of wasting a good outfit on an insignificant day.” Never let someone tell you that you shouldn’t wear something because it’s “too dressy” or it’s “not you.” Be vintage, be spontaneous, and never be afraid to be you.
